Date: Wed, 1 Nov 1995 23:34:23 -0500 (EST) Subject: Inside track on the whole world The Day the World Began ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ... according to Microsoft was August 24th. That day I happened to be attending a training session at Unicef along with high school and college students from across the US, and from 26 other countries, as part of another conference. We were in New York City and the signs of this new world beginning were everywhere. Every time I would go into a Staples to make copies or something I would have to explain to whoever came in with me that Windows 95 was just a disk. It was almost embarrassing, except why should I be embarrased? Is it my Microsoft? Yet, to see (the declaration: "The World begins Thursday, August 24th)" and know... it brought with it a complicity similar to that I felt when reading Emerson's "are they my poor?" Shall we study post-microsoftiality? There are probably futures in it. Let's consult the academic stockbrokers. The inside track on the whole world .... I personally enjoyed this post. I mean I savored it, repeated it in my mind while walking away from the computer. Some people were hoping it was a joke so that they could laugh ("at"). Others "totally got" it and laughed "with". Some of us still don't know whether the "blatant troll" shares are going up or down. Speaking of Halowe'en (and not forgetting microchips), did anyone hear the Capitol Steps Halowe'en special? Those of you who remember that brilliant paper from the GWU psycho-poco conference on the Oklahoma Bomb, which discussed the paranoia of the militia movements .... well the Capitol steps treated the topic in song. If anyone taped it I would really like a copy. thank you -- Aravinda ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ "Waiting for a job, I passed the first year of an M.A. in English Literature.
