Subject: Surreal imagery

I am working on a textual/filmic analysis of the film _Sammy and Rosie Get
Laid_ by Hanif Kureishi and Stephen Frears towards my thesis. I would
appreciate some suggestions from any of the list members re the use of
surrealist qualities or images in films. A number of surrealist elements
appear in the film: for example, the cabbie/ghost, a severed finger with
nail in Rafi's dinner, water turning to blood with skelton, the burning
picture of Virginia Woolf. What I think I might need is some articles on
how surrealist imagery works in films or texts (this sounds too broad a
request?). What I would like is some insights into how to talk about these
elements in relation to the issues raised in the film.

I would appreciate any suggested references, articles list members may think
of.
Regards
Debbie
