As a projectionist at a theater where the series ran, I was able to see just about all the films, chnronologically, over the duration of the series. I was struck on many levels--the colonial narrative that ran not so much in each of the works, but between them, that is, the glaringly obvious change in life-ways over the course of the works. Living as a "guilty" post-colonial, bourgois liberal became more and more of the central question of each film. I would enjoy speaking of these films further, especially for what they have to teach me about Indian-national history as a whole, or non-Indian, non-nationally identified Bengali life-ways as well. Maybe as importantly, I will ask, what must I unlearn from watching these films?
