Subject: law of supplemantarity or rupture is repetation?

Can someone clarify the concept of "law of supplementarity" or more
specifically SPIVAK's usage of it. To make it handy, I will cite two
examples of its use.

1. "It is by the law of supplementarity(what seems a rupture is also a
repetation), then, that ........"The Rani of Sirmur, p 138.in Europe
and its Others.

2. "These structuralists question humanism by exposing its
hero....There is an affinity between the imperialist subject and the
subject of humanism.Yet the crisis of anti-humanism-like all crisses-
does not move our collective "fully".The rupture shows itself to be a
repetation. They fall back upon the notion of consciouness as agent,
totality........" In other worlds, essays in cultural politics, p202.
Cheers
Omar
