Also, I think Olive Senior (I'm really not sure) does something with higglers (Jamaican market women) and lesbianism. Also try the work of folklorist Roger Abrahams (he has some old stuff I think) on these market women. I don't know any poets, but you might want to look at Kindaid's _Annie John_ and _At the Bottom of the River_, particularly the parts about the Red Girl (in the former) and marrying her mother (in the latter).
