Hello Dalia,

Well Driss Chraibi's Les Boucs should be a good possibility, although I would prefer Taieb Salih, Mawsim al-Hijra ila Shamal (translated as : Season of Migration to the North) -- an intra "Middle East" migration novel as you say (from Sudan to Egypt) although I would know exactly how to delineate such a geo-cultural entity.
The so-called "littérature Beur" may provide you with possible candidates --I am not sure whether any of the following is available in translation:
Mehdi Charef, Le Thé au Harem d'Archi Ahmed, (Mercure de France, 1983)
Akli Tadjer, Les ANI du Tassili, (Seuil, 1984)
Ramdane Issaad, Le Vertige des Abbesses,
Farida Belghoul, Georgette, (Bernard Barrault, 1986)
Ahmed Kalouaz, Point Kilométrique, (L'Harmattan, 1986)
Jean-Luc Yacine, L'Escargot, (L'Harmattan, 1986)
Ferrudja Kessas, Beur's Story, (L'Harmattan, 1990)

I hope this helps,

Hamid Ouyachchi
