In her introduction, Chow writes: "Part of the goal of 'writing diaspora' is thus to unlearn that submission to one's ethnicity such as 'Chineseness' as the ultimate signified even as one continues to support movements for democracy and human rights in China, Hong Kong, and elsewhere . . .
