Rey Chow, _Writing Diaspora: Tactics of Intervention in
Contemporary Cultural Studies_ (Bloomington: Indiana Univ, 1993).

In her introduction, Chow writes: "Part of the goal of 'writing
diaspora' is thus to unlearn that submission to one's ethnicity
such as 'Chineseness' as the ultimate signified even as one
continues to support movements for democracy and human rights in
China, Hong Kong, and elsewhere . . . My goal is to set up a
discourse that cuts across some of our new 'solidarities' by
juxtaposing a range of cultural contradictions that make us
rethink the currently dominant conceptualizations of the
    solidarities themselves" (25).
