Bruce,
           yes, I do.  I have taught Latin American fiction a few times, in
different places, for different reasons.  Is this a regular undergraduate
class?  Are they going to read the works in English translations or Spanish
originals?  That makes a big difference because not everything is available
in translation.  Is your colleague interested in contemporary writers or
earlier or last century or what?  I can recommend many books, women and men,
if you just give me a little more information on what you or your colleague
want.  I don't like Isabel Allende that much either but I have taught her
work because students like it and because you can't avoid her or ignore her.
