Subject: Re: Latin American writers

hello bruce,
the best suggestion i can do ad hoc is the last novel of gabriel
garcia marquez, del amor y otros demonios. several themes can be
treated in its close reading:

latin american history in general and colombia in special
the decadence of the colonization system
the mestizaje theme

but as well:
textual practice of an interdisciplinary writer (jounalistic,
novelistic and essayistic writing melted)

the bakhtin paradigma of the carnevalesque, speaking in different
tongues

oral history as a dicourse phenomena

and so on

you will see, that you even don't have to read the whole marquez, to
know about his techniques and procedures. this is in my opinion his
best novel up to now.

try it
regards
andrea schwieger
