Asian Pacific Islander for Immigrant Rights and Empowerment
Californians United for Immigrant Rights Coalition
(213) 630-3189

On Sunday, August 4, at 12 p.m., a coalition of individuals and community
based organizations, will hold a rally to end a 5 day hunger strike
kicked off to protest the welfare bill. The rally will be held at the
Downtown Federal Building, 300 N. Los Angeles St.

Come out and send a message to President Clinton and our state
legislators of the impact welfare bill will have on immigrants,
children, and elderly. The current federal welfare bill will deny SSI
and food stamps to most legal immigrants, including immigrants who are
currently in the country.

In addition, this bill will give STATES the OPTION to make most legal
immigrants who are currently in the country as well as future immigrants
who have been in the country for over five years ineligible for many
other benefits, like Medicaid and AFDC.

If you have any questions, please email me at willow-AT-ucla.edu or call me
at (213) 630-3189.
