Michel-Rolph Trouillot, -Silencing the Past: Power and the Production of History-, Boston: Beacon Press, 1995. It's a book, five chapters, each of which could easily be read as a separate essay, but which ultimately interconnect into a fairly intriguing whole. I really recommend it--I think it's a terrific book. I've already used it with great success in an upper-division undergraduate course.
