For a quick spread of arguments on the topic of "multiculturalism" and 
"the culture wars," I would recommend the book "Beyond PC:Toward a 
Politics of Understanding" edited by Patricia Aufderheide, especially 
section IV and the essay by Joan Wallach Scott.
