*1994* is originally a radio play that was performed as a reading by the
Emory players a week or two ago. The play is intended to be a scathing
commentary on the excesses of a lingusitically obessessed pol. correctness
in the academy when the world beyond demands urgent attention. Can't say
that I enjoyed it very much--the play lacks his usual assurance and
confident touch and seems more like some his *shotgun writing* from those
early turbulent years in nigeria (as opposed to the current Ones!) than
his other published plays.
