Subject: Rushdie films

Here's the best information I've received about Rushdie on film, from Joel
Kuortti, of Finland:

As to your question of Rushdie's film,
he couldn't possibly have returned to Bombay in
1991, but he did go there in 1987 to make the film
"The Riddle of Midnight: India, August 1987," for
Channel 4. It was broadcast in Britain in 27 March,
1988. It is a 90-min. documentary.

In 1995, Rushdie took part in the documentary "Salman
Rushdie and the Lost Portrait" for the BBC. This film was
directed by Chris Granlund, edited by Michel Polle and
the readings were by Ben Kingsley. (45 min).
It was broadcast in Britain in 11 Sep, 1995.

Other tv-productions by Rushdie contain
-The New Empire within Britain, for Channel 4, (Dec 6, 1982)
-The Painter and the Pest for Channel 4 (Je 2, 1985)
-Salman Rushdie: in the Shadow of the Fatwa, for Channel 4,
   Feb 7, 1993.

Interviews:
-Edward W. Said with Salman Rushdie
Writers Talk, 28. ICA Video, London, 1986.
-A Conversation with Salman Rushdie, with Sedge Thomson
San Francisco: American Poetry Archive, 1987 Videorec.
-Salman Rushdie, interview with Charlotte Cornwell
Writers in Conversation, 81. London ICA 1987
-Salman Rushdie, interview with W.L.Webb
   Guardian Conversations, London, ICA; 1989

Thanks to all who replied.
