How about Shauna Singh Baldwin? She won the Writers' Union of Canada Short
Fiction Contest last year and published a book of short stories soon after.
I can't think of the title right now, but I believe she writes out of the
States.
You sound like you're going through the same thing as me. I'm doing a
paper on the state of youth of Pakistani lineage who were born/raised in
Canada/USA. The problem is that I wanted to focus on film and I can't seem
to find anything to suit my purposes. Know of anything other than "My
Beautiful Laundrette" and "Sammy and Rosie"?
Nabeela.
