Kevin: perhaps the book you are referring to is the one edited and
translated by Kalpana Bardhan. Its called something like Women, Peasants,
Outcasts and Rebels. If the book is one I am thinking about its not on women
writers alone but includes Bengali writers from India and Bangladesh and
includes selections from Tagore, Manik Bandopadhaya as well as Mahashweta
Devi. If you are looking for women writers from India in English and in
translation you may want to try Truth Tales and Other stories. Sangeeta
