Since she has been given a slightly less draconian regime, it seems that public outcry, including your own, may have had some effect. Please keep up the good work. It is now almost a certainty now that she will give birth prematurely to her baby while being held without bail. With that thought in mind, I thought you might find the article below interesting. It can be found at http://www.irishnews.com/010497/news4.html Please consider calling or mailing the British and German embassies. If you have lost the numbers, let me know and I will be very happy to send them to you. Please pass this on to interested parties. *****Article from the April 1st Irish News (Belfast): 'McAliskey to learn German in Holloway ' By Michael O'Toole PREGNANT prisoner Roisin McAliskey is learning German in Holloway Prison, her father confirmed yesterday. Michael McAliskey said it was "logical" for his daughter to learn the language. She is currently fighting an attempt to extradite her to Germany, where authorities want to question her about an IRA mortar attack on a British army base last July. No one was injured in the attack on the Osnabruck base. Yesterday Mr McAliskey said his daughter, who is eight months pregnant, was offered a range of classes after her security status in London's Holloway prison was reduced from high risk category A to normal category A status earlier this month. Mr McAliskey said: "They offered her different classes and one of them is a German course. "I think it would be the logical thing for her to do. "She would need it if she had to go there one day." Mr McAliskey said his daughter was "hanging in there" in prison. He also said that one other inmate in the prison's antenatal unit - a pregnant British soldier - refused to speak to his daughter. He said the woman was quoted in an English paper as saying that Ms McAliskey was guilty - even though she has not been charged with any offence. --- from list postcolonial-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu --- --Boundary (ID DvslDSohl8cn3+pfLSq1sQ) RFC-822-headers: Received: from jefferson.village.Virginia.EDU (jefferson.village.Virginia.EDU) by mc.duke.edu (PMDF V5.0-5 #16741) id <01IHAORYDDGW002R6T-AT-mc.duke.edu> for RSikorski-AT-duccrtr; Fri, 04 Apr 1997 05:40:21 -0500 (EST) Received: (from daemon-AT-localhost) by jefferson.village.Virginia.EDU (8.7.6/8.6.6) id EAA17763 for postcolonial-outgoing; Fri, 04 Apr 1997 04:54:54 -0500 Received: from socrates.berkeley.edu (socrates.Berkeley.EDU [128.32.25.13]) by jefferson.village.Virginia.EDU (8.7.6/8.6.6) with ESMTP id EAA64606 for <postcolonial-AT-jefferson.village.Virginia.EDU>; Fri, 04 Apr 1997 04:54:52 -0500 Received: from garnet.berkeley.edu (garnet.Berkeley.EDU [128.32.136.6]) by socrates.berkeley.edu (8.8.4/8.8.0) with ESMTP id BAA17032 for <postcolonial-AT-jefferson.village.Virginia.EDU>; Fri, 04 Apr 1997 01:54:49 -0800 (PST) Received: from localhost by garnet.berkeley.edu (8.7.5/1.33-960227) id PAA13991; Thu, 03 Apr 1997 15:51:16 -0800 Date: Thu, 03 Apr 1997 15:51:15 -0800 (PST) From: dlloyd-AT-garnet.berkeley.edu Subject: Update on Roisin McAliskey (fwd) Sender: owner-postcolonial-AT-jefferson.village.Virginia.EDU To: postcolonial list <postcolonial-AT-jefferson.village.Virginia.EDU> Reply-to: postcolonial-AT-jefferson.village.Virginia.EDU Message-id: <Pine.ULT.3.93.970403154806.10389C-100000-AT-garnet.berkeley.edu> Precedence: bulk --Boundary (ID DvslDSohl8cn3+pfLSq1sQ)-- --- from list postcolonial-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
