Subject: Advice on Ph.D. programs

Hi List Folks,

I'm writing to get some advice/info on Ph.D. programs where I can find a
community of like-minded students and scholars. During a recent web
search for Postcolonial studies, I discovered that it seems to be 'the
in thang' to list poco studies as part of almost every English
department's area of specialization. During cursory looks at the
faculty profiles, I found that the actual number of typical
scholars/profs specializing in poco studies was very small. I suppose
this is partly due to the field's relative 'youth'.

So, then some specific questions:

-Outside of the places that the 'poco big hitters'(Spivak, Bhabha, Said,
etc) teach, where are good places to pursue an advanced degree
specializing in Poco studies? Why?

-Can one pursue an advanced degree in poco studies outside the English
department? I guess I'm thinking comp. lit, or American studies, or ???

-What might the advantages/disadvantages of studying poco theory/crit
outside the U.S.? For example, in Australia? Or the U.K.?

-Ideally, I'd like to specialize in minority/ethnic lit in addition to
poco studies. Any other places besides Berkeley to do this?

Thanks for your responses, feedback. I appreciate it.
