     Dear Professor Mills:

Yesterday I met with the editorial director to discuss the Asian
Writers Series. The results of the meeting were encouraging. He has
asked me to prepare a report on the Asian Writers Series with the idea
that management reassess its decision to discontinue the series.

Here is where I could use some help from you. Would you be willing to
fax me course outlines and syllabi for the classes that relate to
Asian and postcolonial literature in your program? Having this kind
of data would help me immensely as I prepare my report. Additional
information that would be valuable: Which publishers, other than
Heinemann, supply Asian literature for your program? Where do you
think Asian literature is heading: what are the major themes and
concerns authors are writing about? How, indeed, do you and your
colleagues define what Asian literature is.

I know these are big questions and you don't have to answer them all.
I would be most appreciative, however, if you could get back to me
with any insights and ideas you may have.

You can fax the material to me at 603-431-7840, or you can send me an
     email attachment.

Thank you for your time and effort.

     With best wishes,

     Jim Lance
     Editor
