"I'm not sure I'm comfortable with being labeled a US-basher.  Actually
it's a problem I struggle with in my current work analyzing diplomatic
history at the turn of the century, particularly because of the role US
policies play in development theory today.  Am I naive in believing that
an analysis of ideological hegemony can be valued for its contribution to
critical discourse without being contentiously polemical?  I'm not
interested in burning the flag.  I'm interested in uncovering those
unequal power relations and in leveling the playing field.
