Wayne,

I was just reading Homi Bhabha's essay, "The Other Question" last night and
thought that it might help in a reading of _Orientalism_. Bhabha devotes
only a few pages to the book, but his entire approach to the concept of
othering could be especially productive. Instead of a simple power/knowledge
connection where the colonizer represents the colonized in ways amenable for
colonial domination, otherness is caught up in a fetishistic expression of
ambivalence. The essay can be found in _The Location of Culture_ , and has
previously been published elsewhere.
