Janette Turner Hospital has many enigmatic stories in this vein in her
brilliant volume _Isobars_.

I don't know if you want to look at translations, as you mention "poco
writers" but don't add "in English".  I am thinking of Mia Couto, an at
times wonderful writer from Mozambique, and no doubt other people could add
figures from Latin America.
