Gopalpur-on-Sea is a quiet beach resort on the Bay of Bengal on the
central east coast of India. The nearest airport at Bhubaneswar (95
miles) is connected by bus, train, taxi and automobile. The nearest
railway station at Berhampur (5 miles) is connected to Calcutta, Madras,
and Mumbai (Bombay) by super fast express trains. December is very mild
in Gopalpur (50-60F degrees). The beach is extremely clean and quiet.

Accommodation: The conference will be held at the Vincent Retreat and
all participants will be housed there. The conference registration
includes the cost of lodging and all meals. Additional hotel
accommodation is also available within short walking distance at:
	Oberoi Palm Beach	($120/single; $190/double)
	Hotel Mermaid ($20/single, includes meals)

Orissa is a colorful state with a lot of tourist attractions. Travel to
Bhubaneswar-Puri-Konark, known as the Golden Triangle, can be arranged
by the local coordinators for a small additional cost.

For travel arrangements from the United States and for travel in other
parts of India (Delhi-Agra-Jaipur is a popular corridor), I recommend
Mrs. Hasu Tailor of Travel Exchange, Dallas (ph: 214-265-7562
fax: 214-265-9462). In my experience working with her the last twelve
years, she has proved to be reliable, competent, and the most
competitive in price.
