dear friends,
on the subject of Nuruddin Farah, who is indeed a HE, and excision-critical
works. He's just received the prestigious Neustadt Prize from the U.
Oklahoma (40 thousand dollars for best foreign writer in English language
or translation, a sterling silver eagle feather, much fanfare, feasting and
celebration AND a special issue of World Lit. Today soon to come to a
library near yours). He's spending the year in Nigeria. Since the last 19
Neustadt (such as Octavio Paz, Assia Djebar, Derek Walcott) have also
become Noble Laureates, let's keep hoping. Couldn't have happened to a
nicer guy. cz
