Subject: Re: Naipaul-Theroux

A US News & World Report story says that Theroux was upset to see in
a catalog the sale ad for the first editions of several of his books
inscribed by him as gifts to Naipaul. Prseumably, Nadira Alvi had
cleaned the library shelves and gotten rid of the Theroux volumes. Is
there anyone on the list who has seen the ad? I would like to know the
asking price of these first editions.

I met Paul Theroux in Calcutta in 1972 or 73 when he was researching his
"railway bazaar" book.
