Writing for readers of an Egyptian weekly, trying to explain "American
policies abroad" through his "knowledge of the peculiarities of American
culture at home," Said dissects the workings of "the American popular
imagination, amplified millions of times by the ubiquitous media" to
suggest that Clinton and McGwire share the stage on which "a cosmic drama
between good and evil" seems to be played out.  If this is taken to be the
point of his analysis, it makes little difference what the 'real' color of
McGwire's hair is, unless you like splitting red-hair!
