Subject: music and representation sources?


Hello:

I have a student who is writing about representations of "otherness" in
music; he's focusing especially on 18th and 19th century opera.  I'm
having him read Said, Spivak, Bhabha, and perhaps Trinh to start.  Can
anyone recommend any sources from within the field of music that would be 
helpful for him to read?
