Assuming that everyone on this list is "anti-imperialist" (how many scare quotes can I use?) we have to judge what imperialism means. Presumably "police action" around the world has imperialist tendencies. Can it ever be justified by the immoral acts of a leader (no, not Bill and Monica)? Presumably yes (accepting Nazi Germany might be taking anti-imperialism a bit far) but when? I think refusing inspection of nuclear facilities doesn't justify bombing. I don't know how many non-Canadians have heard of this but recently our government behaved immorally in its response to legal demonstrations at the APEC conference. I just hope the Americans don't send the missiles. terry Terry Goldie English Department York University North York, Ontario Canada M3J 1P3 voice: 416-604-3670 fax: 416-736-5412 email: tgoldie-AT-yorku.ca --- from list postcolonial-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
