hi anne,

it is an interesting question you pose. well, from my brief review of the
materials i have on the subject, you may find at least a beginning but,
unfortunately, nothing really substantial. albert raboteau discusses
obeah briefly in _slave religion_, and refers his reader to the work of
orlando patterson. robert farris thompson seems to talk around obeah, but
focuses more closely on vodun in _flash of the spirit_. sidney mintz also
makes brief mention of it in _caribbean transformations._. all of these
texts have bibliographies that could provide further leads.
patterson's text is entitled _the sociology of slavery_ hope this is at
least somewhat helpful. if i can think of anything else, i'll email you.

best,
rebecka
