The most recent popular use of it has been in Paul Simon's song (You Can Call me Al). I've been told that there's a biblical reference to it and that it's also important to Muslims. I've also read something vague about it being a sign of lunacy -- that at one point, a lot of peple in asylums claimed to have seen angels in the architecture.
