1) to include literatures otherwise not studied and to include them (I
hope) as national or regional literatures, not just a few token Rushdies.
2) to open students to the possibility of seeing literatures thriugh the
lens of anti-imperialism, as in other politicized courses they look at
race, gender, etc.
