I agree with Marlene. "White" must be seen conceptually. If I'm not
mistaken, some organization (the American Boy Scouts?) used to include the
admonition "Be White", not as a racial but as a moral marker. It is worth
remembering therefore that there are many instances when a non-white
person is pretty close to WHITE, eg a bourgeois professional. I find this
particularly important when WHITE is used to contrast with First Nations.
In most cases, the social equation is better described as "non-indigenous
-Canadians (including-non-white-bourgeois-Canadians)acting-as-though-they 
-were-WHITE vs First Nations."
