Subject: Request for help

I would like to ask other members of the list for some advice. I work as
a lecturer at a women's university in Japan and I am in the fortunate
position of being able to apply for a grant to study abroad for a year.
My background is in applied linguistics but in recent years I have
become more interested in postcolonialism and postcolonial literature.
I have written papers on works Hanif Kureishi, Timothy Mo and Kazuo
Ishiguro. My academic background in this area is lacking, however, and I
would like to use the opportunity to study abroad, probably in the UK,
to develop my basic knowledge of the field in general and of these and
similar authors in particular. My problem is that I don't really know
where to start looking. It is not possible for me to sign on to a
regular student program, so I need to contact a university, department
or individual directly and obtain permission to study in a particular
institution and/or with a particular person. Do any listmembers have any
suggestions for where I might start looking?
To avoid clogging up the list with any answers to this personal problem,
please send any replies to my personal e-mail address rather than back
to the list.

Thanks,

Tony
