Addendum: Indians in general were  regarded  as "niggers"  by the British
Raj as amply documented by Lawrence James.

It's likely that Homi Bhabha was referring only to his own minority
community, the Parsis, when he cited the British attitude toward Indians as
"not white, not quite." There's wasn't any such equivocation in British
