Please forward the following to anyone who might be interested. As some of
you might know, there were two similar advertisements in the past and in
one case we didn't make an appointment and in the other we didn't make a
postcolonial appointment. However, in the present instance the climate has
changed in a number of ways and there is extreme pressure on us to fill
this within the current year. Therefore I hope many people who applied in
the past will apply again.
Please note the distinction below about citizenship. It is very unlikely
that we will interview anyone except Canadian citizens and those who
already have "permanent resident" status.

Applications are invited for a tenure-stream appointment in the
Department of English,

York University. The position offered is in Post-colonial, at the level
of assistant

professor. The successful candidate will have substantial university
teaching experience

and preferably expertise in one or more African literatures. We would
welcome applicants

with an interest in issues of literature and nation and literatures of
the African Diaspora.

The appointment is subject to budgetary approval by the University.

Qualifications include a Ph.D in English Literature with specialisation
in the above field,

and demonstrable excellence in both teaching/research. It is expected
that the successful

candidate will make an energetic contribution to the undergraduate
programme and, either

immediately or very soon to the graduate programme, as well as developing
a productive

programme of research.

Salary will depend on qualifications and experience.
