Subject: Re: Cesaire reprints anyone?

Copied below for the friends of literature out there a response from the
Univ. Virginia Press CARAF market person, to whom I had sent a desperate
message when my bookstore, 2 weeks prior to beginning of class, informed me
that Cesaire's CARAF LYRICAL AND DRAMATIC POETRY, which offers THE DOGS
WERE SILENT as well as LAMINARIA, was now out of print.

In the meanwhile, the press had sent me my desk copy 3 weeks ago. Hello out
there! Is the right hand talking to the left? Or are we all merrily to make
Kinko richer and richer?

Her name is Mary Kathryn Hassett at mkh2w-AT-virginia.edu
If you wish to persuade her that Cesaire is worth reprinting, tigritude or
no tigritude, email her, please. Thanx, cz

Her own words:

I am working to see if we could get an on-demand reprint from Ingram on the
Cesaire title. Could you guarnteed an order of 20 copies at around $20? If
we could anticipate selling about 200 eventually I think we could afford the
on-demand reprint set-up. would you ask you textbook person if they could
order from Ingra? I think we could have it by end of August if we act fast.

Marjorie Perloff mentioned that she thought a Cesaire reader would be useful
for the classroom. What do you think.
