PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN VISUAL CULTURE

Applications are invited for the position of Professor/Associate Professor
in Visual Culture. The appointee will be expected to teach undergraduate
courses and to direct a post-graduate programme in Visual Culture. This is
a new cross-disciplinary venture within the Division of Humanities related
to programmes in Film and Media Studies and Art History and Theory, to
programmes in other Divisions, such as Design and Information science, as
well as other cross-disciplinary programmes, such as Performing Art
Studies. Applicants should have a post-graduate qualification in Visual
Culture itself, or a cognate discipline, but with a clearly defined
interest in the development of Visual Cultural Studies.

In addition the appointee would be expected to administer a newly
constituted Department of Art History, Theory and Visual Culture. The art
history and theory section has been established at the University of Otago
since 1990 and currently has four academic staff teaching a full
undergraduate and post-graduate programme. The appointee would be expected
to administer the two programmes, assisted by staff members from a variety
of departments throughout the university. This is an exciting new position
demanding an applicant of academic maturity, with a strong reputation in
research and with the sensitivity to administer a unique combination of
disciplines within the School of Liberal Arts.

The salary range for Associate Professor is $75,000 to $85,500 per annum
and for a Professor is $86,500 to $106,500 per annum. The appointment to
commence no later than 1 July 12000 or at an earlier date to be negotiated.
