The Impasse in Middle East Peace: The Issue of Jerusalem

WASHINGTON, DC -- The American Committee on Jerusalem (ACJ) will hold a
luncheon briefing on the current impasse in the peace negotiations between
Israel and the Palestinians and suggest ways of reinvigorating the talks on
Monday, March 13, 2000, in the Rayburn House Office Building, Room B-340,
from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m..
Featured speaker is Dr. Hanan Mikhail-Ashrawi, Member of the Palestinian
Legislative Council, Jerusalem, and Secretary General of MIFTAH, The
Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy.

Dr. Ashrawi will provide an update on the situation in Jerusalem with an
emphasis on the continued illegal settlement expansion, the demolition of
Palestinian homes, the confiscation of Palestinian land, and the
discriminatory Israeli policy of depriving Palestinians of their residency
rights in the city which constitute a major threat to the achievement of a
comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the area.

The briefing will be moderated by ACJ Vice President, Mr. Khalil Jahshan.

To attend this briefing, please RSVP by calling ACJ at (202) 237-0215.
