MONSOON MAGAZINE: A VIBRANT PLATFORM FOR SOUTH ASIA'S CREATIVE ARTS

MINNESOTA, USA (March 14, 2000) -- An exciting and unique South Asian
literary magazine is making its presence felt on the web. Just visit
www.monsoonmag.com for a literary journey through South Asia. The site
includes art, poetry, fiction, essays, book reviews, interviews with South
Asian authors/artists and more.

Launched in December 1998, the magazine is the brainchild of writer and
editor Shikha Malaviya. Why did she come up with this idea? "As a writer,
and as a supporter of the creative arts, I was very surprised to find a
sparse South Asian presence on the web, regarding South Asian literature and
the arts. What I did find was either too elite or too ambiguous." With the
help of a creative and diverse team, Monsoon Magazine has just released its
third issue, featuring writers and artists such as Tahira Naqvi, Bharti
Kirchner, Shubha Mudgal, Shezad Noorani, Bapsi Sidhwa, Reetika Vazirani and
others.

Monsoon Magazine's Mission:
Monsoon Magazine is dedicated to the creation and sustenance of a vibrant
dialogue between emerging and established South Asian practitioners of the
creative arts, along with its supporters. Monsoon Magazine's idea was born
from a desire to fill in the gaps of existing South Asian and South Asian
diasporic literature and art with a spectrum of beliefs. The deep-rooted
connections of a shared history give the countries of South Asia an
experience that is universal and yet utterly personal. What are these
connections? Where have they brought us? And how will they shape our future?
These are some questions Monsoon Magazine hopes to delve into and explore
through its literature and art.
