Dear Sangita,

I'm not sure if you are looking for critical texts or works of fiction, but
that's because I'm no a po-co academic :-) Anyway, I don't know if the text
is accessible, but you might want to seek out Shakespeare Ki Ram-Leela, a
play in Hindi written by Iqbal Khwaja, which retold Romeo and Juliet in the
format of a Ram-Leela. The play was staged in Bombay in mid-1980s, and
predictably, the Shiv Sena had objected.

Also, as regards detective fiction by authors from the UK, set in India, I'm
sure you've considered HRF Keating's Inspector Ghote series. Merchant-Ivory
made one of the works into a film, called The Perfect Murder.

Salil
