Terry, 
I agree with your comments regarding privileges, especially the remarks
concerning white privilege. (I am white with some Native American heritage.)
However, I don't think that I was denying participation in U.S. hegemony--I
can hardly do that, as I was educated in the U.S. Your latest posting seems
more nuanced than the earlier ones, though, for in it you allow for the
possibility of resistance. We are not simply the sum of our multiple
identities, many of which are not of our choosing. Identity is much more
elusive than that, I believe, and is made up of choices--such as the choice
to resist hegemony (as you suggest in this latest posting). Lisa
