Subject: Canute


Not all that important I know but the tale of Canute shows less hubris
than the long-term failure of people to recall the irony in stories. He
was asked if he was all-powerful and said, more or less, "Of course." And
then turned to the sea and said, "Stop."
Too bad more academics aren't similarly willing to see their limitations.
