I'm away from home..but as I recall....what you quoted Terry
was I believe in the context of human sacrifice...
how society still requires human sacrifice....the trope of homosexuality
nested in the trope of HIV certainly has raised that specter....what I am
saying is that we haven't "evolved" at all....we still need human sacrifices
to assuage "the gods"
