Dear ...

	Salaam.  Although itself under fire and perennially targeted for
official harassment, the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR),
comes readily to mind as an organization to approach.  *Al-Ahram Weekly*,
an English extension of the leading Arabic official daily *Al-Ahram*, may
well be another avenue.  The latter, in my opinion, is more amenable to
world sensibilities, and thus inserts direct and / or oblique criticisms
of the political scene in Egypt.

	Irrespective of whether or not we differ with Dr. Saad El Din's
formulations, his case is but one of so many in the Arab world where the
integrity of the intellectual quest is violated and rudimentary freedom of
thought is denied.  It is high time that we in the West took a stand and
made our views known to respective authorities.  All dialectical details
aside, my primary objective at the moment is that the _allegedly accused_
people like Ibrahim Saad El Din and Sayyid al-Qimany should be guaranteed
safety and fair trials.
