I suggest Oxfam. Their web site is www.oxfam.ca
They have an excellent record of "helping people help themselves" over the
past 30 years.
Their recent newsletter highlights work with local partners improving food
security in Central America; global networks working toward education for
all; famine relief efforts in Ethiopia; and an update on their partnerships
working on detailed reconstruction programs in Mozambique. They are not your
traditional paternalistic "charity"; they are committed to working with
people on the ground to make a real difference in peoples' lives.

A friend of mine is looking to donate money to a good organisation
addressing global food imbalance and starvation. They're looking to avoid
the "sponsor a child with a cup of rice and english lessons" scenario of
many mainstream charities.

Can any list members help out with organisations who are helping develop
sustainable food production in areas which need it? Explicit anti-colonial
philosophy helpful but not necessary, it's more important that the $$ ends
up in useful areas.

Opinions and URLs would be great.

Regards,

Danny
