There's also the art critic Geeta Kapur, who writes on contemporary Indian art
and modernism  in Indian art. She's founder/editor of the Indian -Journal of
Arts and Ideas-. And has a book  -Contemporary Indian Artists- (1978) and
another on -K.G. Subramaniam- (1987). I haven't read them,  but got this info
out of Niranjana et. al., eds., -Interrogating Modernity-, where Geeta Kapur has
an essay on Indian cinema (something else she writes on).
