The story set in the Congo in '59. An American Baptist missionary family disintegrating against the backdrop of the Congo struggle for independence from Belgian rule. Kingsolver's writes both fiction and non-fiction...her historical research is said to be very good...and my son says "Pigs in Heaven" was a very good read.... Instead of buying the book, I opted for a day with my granddaughter...a whole 'nother postcolonial project...;-))) --- from list postcolonial-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
