To nearly everyone in my address book:

DON'T GIVE UP HOPE! On December 23rd, President Clinton commuted only three
sentences - only 3 people were freed from prison. The rest were pardons,
which simply clear one's record after a person has been
released. Peltier's petition for clemency (or commutation of sentence) is
still pending. CALL NOW: 202-456-1111 (The White House Comments Line) -
Demand Justice for Leonard Peltier!

ALSO - IMPORTANT - VOTE ON-LINE FOR CLEMENCY The website
http://www.vote.com has a poll up with the question "Should President
Clinton Pardon Leonard Peltier, Who Was Convicted Of Killing Two FBI
Agents?"

Yesterday morning, the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee in Kansas reported
that the totals were about 6,500 votes no and 350 votes yes. Clearly, the
FBI found out about the poll before Leonard's supporters and other human
rights activists did... A few hours ago a member of the Ipperwash Coalition
network reported that "About 6,000 yes votes came in since the LPDC sent
out the information about the clemency vote." I JUST voted and found that
we are neck-in-neck - 51% to 49% - with 20,000 votes cast! YOU KNOW WHAT TO
DO! The LPDC is asking all Peltier supporters to go to this website and
vote in support of clemency for Leonard Peltier.

For each person that votes and signs up with "vote.com", an email will be
sent to President Clinton, telling him how he/she voted. [Vote.com was
created by Dick Morris (who was President Clinton's chief strategist and
advisor in the 1996 campaign. He's now a commentator on the Fox News
Channel and writes a weekly column in the New York Post) and Eileen McGann
is an attorney and former public interest lobbyist.]

YOU CAN SEND YOUR OWN EMAIL TO THE PRESIDENT asking for clemency or a
commutation of sentence at <president-AT-whitehouse.gov> (I am just going to
try that address myself!)

YOU CAN ALSO SEND A FREE FAX TO CLINTON: If you like you can also send a
free fax to President Clinton asking for clemency for Peltier through the
following link:
http://www.globalexchange.org/campaigns/usa/peltier/getInvolved.html

YOU CAN WRITE TO President Clinton at:
President William Jefferson Clinton
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave., NW
Washington, D.C. U.S.A.
20500

Don't give up trying - it's Leonard Peltier's only hope.

In solidarity,
and wishing us all a Happy New Year,
Ann Pohl
