Subject: Religions and literature

I am wondering about the possibility of teaching a course in
modern/contemporary creative literature which gives the reader the "felt
experience" of religions, e.g. not only Christianity but Islam,
Hinduism, Buddhism, indigenous religions (African, Native American),
etc. etc. I would be grateful for suggestions of primary texts and
relevant theory. The texts would have to be available in English and
for purchase in the U.S.

Thanks,
