Hi,

They had an exhibition called "Orientalism" a couple of years ago at the NSW
Art Gallery. I just had a quick flip through the exhibition book and few
references to AUstralian artists came up. Hilda Rix Nicholas, Tom Roberts,
and Arthur Streeton. I'm not sure if any of these had depictions of Persian
culture and lit. Roberts did have a painting called "A Rose of Persia".
Incidentally Roberts was very much influenced by J-L Gerome.

Hope this helps.

Dear Friends:
Could anyone please provide me with some information
regarding the escapist fantasy that Western
Orientalism has created in Australian imagination?
I am especially interested in the Australians'
representation of Persian culture and literature.
